"And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect."
Genesis 17:1 (KJV)
In this verse God speaks to a 99-year-old man, saying to walk before Him and become perfect (blameless, mature or into full bloom). But what does this mean?
God shows that He requires action on our part. He didn't say, "Just sit there and do nothing and one day you'll become perfect." Walking means taking risks, metering your steps, falling down, getting up and moving on with life. So take a risk, meter your steps, fall down, get back up, move on with your life... and then you'll become perfect? Within the text, there's one more key phrase to consider.
We discover the importance of the next two words "before me." It isn't about how much you "walk." Abram was 99 YEARS OLD! I'm sure he could have responded, "If walking is all it takes, I've been doing that for 99 years and I'm pretty good at it." It takes walking before God. So take a risk, meter your steps, fall down, get back up, move on with your life... before God.
Abide with Jesus in the journey. Process your everyday life with Him and find a 'full blooming' (maturing) that is breathtakingly beautiful! One that God sees and says, "Well Done."
